Come on, admit it. You’re scared to wear white jeans right now. On a snowy day like this do you dare? What will people think or say? They’ll think you don’t know what you’re doing. What will you wear with them?
So many questions! The first and second question or worry have the same answer….it doesn’t matter and if you wear them with confidence they’ll wonder why they don’t have a pair! The second question I’ll address in this blog; how to wear them when the days are still so cold and possibly snowy!
First, make sure they aren’t lightweight, summery denim. Denim comes in different weights and fall/winter jeans and early spring jeans will usually be heavier. A paper thin pair of jeans will not feel good when it’s 40 degrees outside. You’ll be able to tell by the feel of the denim. That’s not to say the ones you wear in the summer won’t do, just make sure they aren’t thin.
Next is what to wear with them. As spring approaches clothing becomes lighter in color while still being warm. For instance light pink cashmere sweaters instead of eggplant. Or, layering a tangerine gingham check shirt and navy pullover sweater instead of dark green and red plaid with the navy sweater. So, your guide while choosing pieces to go with white jeans is lighter shades but still somewhat heavy fabrics. Another option is shades of white. A cream cable turtleneck with skinny white jeans and brown boots. Throw a solid color jacket over or add a scarf for some color. Lovely!
Ok, I have to get technical for a sec. WordPress wouldn’t let me upload these pictures so I copied/pasted and the picture below is the sad result:) So sorry but hopefully you can get the idea. It’s from a Lucky.com slideshow. Featuring white jeans worn in a summer style to the left then adding all white pieces with a huge pop of color in the blue coat for winter. A similar version of what I described above. I love it except for the white ankle boots…don’t think I could do those. Although Lucky might disagree, I’d go with black.

Another option is to add springy tones in a winter feel as I’ve already mentioned. I love what Lucky chose for this slide. This ski sweater is just great. I love that wide neck and it is just roomy enough for maximum comfort without swallowing her. I’d roll that jean hem just a bit and show some of the boot, not tuck it in. But, that’s just me. Snowflake sparkly stud earrings finish it off. Style for cold days for sure! If I close my eyes I may just feel like I’m back in Park City! And, btw, if you don’t have any ankle boots, I’d look into it; I think they’ll be here awhile.

I think for most of us, shoes present the biggest dilemma. So my short list of suggestions is this; if the jean is skinny, just tuck into your tall riding boots. For instance, you could do a heavy black turtleneck and black boots. Black and white never fail. For a bootcut style jean, any height heel will do, obviously boots, not a pump being the warmest choice and the look we’re going for. And for a straight leg cut, again, some kind of boot. Or on not so frigid days, a flat will work for skinny or straight. And as I stated before, you can put a little cuff in straight or skinny for some added interest.
I hope this helps with figuring out how to wear white jeans right now. I actually like them better than in the fall. By fall, I’m ready to put away my white denim and bring on all the dark colors. For more pictures on white jeans from Lucky, click here.
