And so it begins….the season of bare legs, arms, feet, etc. It can definitely be a bit daunting. But why not make it the year you embrace the way you look?? Make your style a priority. You can pile on black tunics over black leggings like you do in the winter (and frankly it doesn’t look good then either) or squeeze into that white pencil skirt you loved 5 years ago that’s just a wee bit tight now. Or assess your shape and start to dress in pieces that fit well and wear color and shapes that flatter. I’m going to do some tough talkin’ friends.
If you haven’t been fitted for a bra lately that’s a good place to start. Tee shirts and thin tops need a smooth surface to glide over. A wrinkling bra or a bust spilling over the bra edge doesn’t offer that. Visit a department store, Victoria’s Secret or other lingerie retailer. A proper fitter will measure around the bust with a tape measure and then bring you several sizes and styles to try. Make sure it’s comfortable and you like the look. A nude and a black bra should be your first investment before you move on to leopard prints or pink lace:)
Another summer dilemma which actually isn’t one at all is whether to tan or not. HELLO? It’s 2014 and skin cancer abounds. I believe most women I talk to are paying attention to skin care routines. For the rest of your body, buy a self tanning lotion if your skin tone bothers you, not a tanning bed. Or get out in the sun for a couple of weekends and read or garden. It just takes a short while to achieve a glow for most people. If you burn easily or don’t have the desire/time it’s time to learn to be happy with your natural skin tone. Pale skin is so desirable now. You’ll also want to change up your makeup routine….softer, natural tones for spring and summer are a good way to go. Maybe try a different eye shadow or blush. Visit a makeup counter and let them show you the best techniques for your skin tone.
I love this look, pale peachy/pink lip and everything else natural….
With both undergarments and makeup don’t let sales people push you into a purchase. Most of them do work on commission but are willing to keep helping until you are happy. You have to be ok with saying “it’s not really what I want” or “it’s more than I can spend now” or walking away. Makeup and bras can both come with some pretty steep prices. But, if you can afford it, it gets the job done, and you like it, then it’s a sound purchase.
Next, we’ve all seen the magazine article about getting your feet in summer shape. Well, it’s a truth for sure. They’ve been cooped up for months now and most likely need some primping. Whether you do it yourself or go to a salon, pay attention to your ankles and feet. Lotion, file, polish….whatever, just give them some attention. You’ll also feel better in the dressing room when trying on shorts and skirts not to mention bathing suits. A pedicure is a treat and really worth it I think. You’re welcome.
Now, the first thing clothing wise I believe should be on your summer list, if you don’t already have them is the most fantastic pair of white jeans you can find. I want them to fit as close to perfect as possible, sit at the spot on your waist/hip that most flatters your body which means probably not a 3 inch zipper or way above your navel! and be skinny, straight, or boot. Which ever you prefer. It’ll take some time and effort, seriously it might. But sooo worth it for 50 million summer outfits! If you are a much heavier size and white just really isn’t going to be good for you, then we can rethink that and fill in with a fabulous pair of straight or boot jeans in a summer weight dark wash. Not to worry!
That’s a good start….undergarments, feet, summer makeup, and white jeans! I know it’s a strange compilation. Next post we’ll focus on some other summer essentials. I may even delve into hair styles! Yikes! Please call for any wardrobe needs you may have. It may be way past time for you to sift through all those things piled up in your closet. Let’s do it!!
Have a great rest of the week….
Oh, and I can’t forget to give a shout out to a great photographer Eden Starling Luquire. Any new headshoots or professional photos you see of me were taken by Eden. I HATE to have my pic done professionally and she made it as painless as possible. Thank you Eden.
