Sale going on this evening!

White On

May 10, 2011

If I were fanatical, I would write a post about how to keep the horrid cicadas off of you.  You know, bee keeper hat, or DIY floppy hat with spring colored tulle over it and tied about the waist.  But, I’m not fanatical about them, I just hate them more than you can imagine.  I haven’t seen one in my neck of the woods yet but soon, I’m sure.

So, you ask, what will I write about?  Well, the warm temps are here and that means I’m lovin’ wearing anything white and this will definitely last well through the summer!  I saw a girl in church on Sunday wearing fabulous fitting white pants, no  undies showing through, and the cutest pink stripe sleeveless top with seaming that made it fit like a glove.  Heels finished the outfit and she looked great, even with a crying baby on her shoulder!

I’m sure you all have heard of the LBD but have you heard of the LWD?  The little white dress.  Although this look started a couple of warm seasons ago, it’s still going strong.  You choose the style just make sure it’s pure white.  Cotton, linen, eyelet, silk, halter, sheath, sundress; what ever the style and fabric, pristine white is a must.  The dress below is just about perfect.  I love the length, the lace overlay and the lining is a scoop neck in the front and back which seems to say…. dress up, dress down.

Soooo cute with metallic flats or heels as shown.  If you can’t enlarge it here, definitely go to the site and see it!

Now then, after you wear your fabulous LWD to a play or dinner or where ever, then,  you can get casual in this precious white tank.  Sometimes, all you need is the perfect top to make the outfit.  This flirty ruffled top would be great with a pair of skinny jeans (roll up and cuff for a springy feel)  and a pair of wedge platforms.  I can also see it with summery khaki linen pants, a wide brown belt, and brown flat sandals…..so  reminiscent of  scenes from Out of Africa.  Whether it’s this one or one you choose, a white tank with a detail or two is a necessity for summertime.

This one has cute little rows of see through stitching alternating with the ruffles.

With the temperatures climbing up close to 85 degrees, shorts are a must have.  They don’t have to be short shorts, most women look best when they are mid-thigh to an inch or two above the knee.  You’ll hear them called Bermuda, walking shorts, or street shorts.  These are going to look good with heels or flats.  And what a chic outfit you’ll have with a pair, again, solid white!  They’re going to work with any color top you’ve got but if you really want to make a statement, try wearing white on top also.  Top to bottom in all white is a fabulous look and so cool in the summer heat.

Try a crisp white blouse with these for the ultimate hot weather outfit.  I love the cut on these too.

Lots of  women shy away from the color white.   It isn’t necessarily the color that is unflattering, often it is the cut or fit of the garment.  Get in the dressing room with an objective eye (mine is available) and try on.  Whether it is a pair of jeans, a dress, or a top, I’m certain there is a cool, cottony, white piece waiting just for you.

Thanks for reading…..

Dreams of Spring 2010 in January

January 2, 2010

Happy New Year!  You know it’s not just a new year but a new decade.  Remember 10 years ago and the Y2K scare?  Gladly not this year!  You probably realize that the fabrics and design for 201o fall lines are already decided on and being produced for shows and market.  When you think about  it that way, it is not out of the question for us to be talking spring fashions!   Even if it is January 2.   So, as you’re slugging about in those new Uggs or puffy coat you got for Christmas, you can dream about what you’ll be wearing in  3 or 4 months.

The trends for this spring are really new takes on some fall and winter looks you’ve seen.   Epaulets, double breasted jackets, khaki, and navy are all trademarks of military style.  I love it.  It is traditional yet edgy at the same time.  When I was in high school I used to wear my uncle’s USAF short waist wool jacket with his pins and all.  It was olive green and oh so cool.  I still have it.  Anyway, you don’t have to take it that far to get the vibe going.  Here’s a good example of the military trend that everyone can try.

Moschino jacket/ Spring 10/ $495.00

If you are fond of the feminine romantic look don’t look to this season’s spring florals  for it.   Most of the florals I’ve seen for the upcoming season are bold and colorful.  Not shy wallflowers.  Look for large appliqués, bright stand out prints, and a great mix of colors.  I love the skirt below.

Okay, let’s tackle jeans.  How long have you heard bootcut, straight leg are the most flattering and do not get a tapered leg jean?  Then, over a years’ time, everyone is wearing skinny jeans and even denim leggings!  Well, the “rule” still stands as far as I’m concerned.  A moderate bootcut or even a straight leg jean universally looks the best.  Yes….there are some that shouldn’t wear skinny jeans.  IF, and that’s a big if, you are tucking them into a boot, it will create some balance and help make them look as they are supposed to.  So, if you must try them and your rear and hips aren’t meant for them, do get a great boot to tuck them into.  And a top that hits about hip length.  As far as spring looks go, skinny will definitely still be all the rage.  As well as, ripped, torn, deconstructed, loose with the hem rolled, light dark and everything in between.  If you can pull it off like the pic below, all denim does make a statement!  Although, I wouldn’t try and match the denim, even though it works in this look.

Next week I should be back on track with 2 to 3 posts a week.  I am going to start to include some tips for menswear as well, and hopefully get advice from a male’s perspective for any male readers out there!  Also, look for a 3rd page soon with more detailed information on pricing and services.  As always, thanks….

Silver Bells

December 18, 2009

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but my blog titles lately have all been Christmas carols.  I do love this season.  The tree, everyone home, eating decadent food, snow (hopefully), and family.  I hope your holidays are very special to you also.

This post is going to be short but I have 3 great items to discuss.  I think I’ve covered metallic pieces in other posts but loved these 3 so much I did it again.  They are great for the holidays but the thing about silver/metallic gray is it will work fantastic for spring paired with white, black, navy, and lots of other colors.  It just goes.

The first is very hip.  My daughter has a pink one and when she is home from college we “share” it.  This one is a little more updated and is fabulous for this weather.  It is beautiful and I would love to have it in my closet, or under the tree!

Bebe silver puffer vest/ $98.00

The next one is one that some may find intimidating to wear.  It is a necklace or really a neck collar and is lovely.  This would work on a nicer black tee or an LBD.   It could go with a strapless dress and will definitely take you into the summer.  Plus it’s on sale.  I bought something in a similar size with large beads and can’t wait to wear it!

Banana Republic glam necklace/ $59.99

Converse shoes.  I know, a bit of a departure from holiday metallics.  They are making a huge comeback.  Did you know?  I have a pair of Superga’s (similar looking) in red and I love them.  On warmer days I wear them with jeans, khakis, even yoga pants.  I think any female on your list would love a pair and you’ll love all the colors.  Of course for this post, I chose silver (Converse calls it gray for some reason!)

Gray converse shoes/ about $40.00

I love silver (gray during the year) shades.  They mix so well and can really spark an outfit.  Try some embellishment on a tee shirt or go all the way with a sequined evening jacket.   I’d love to know how you wear metallics.   Comment and let me know. Bye for now….
